Hey guys, I've got an interesting issue. I've got a server that is a distributor and has subscriber as a linked server as well. When I try to run a remote query such as the followingexec ('select 1') at SERVER01I get a message saying that "Could not connect to server 'SERVER01' because 'login' is not defined as a remote login at the server. Verify that you have specified the correct login name." When I check both servers they have correct login names, so I have to drill further. What I find then is if I run EXEC sp_helpremotelogin, I get a list, where subscriber exists and distributor_admin is listed as the login. If I try to run the same remote query on a different server that's a linked server but not on this list, the query executes perfectly fine. If I try to add remote login by doing "EXEC sp_addremotelogin 'SERVER01', 'login', 'login'", I see it being added to the table, but I still can't execute the remote query. I'm kinda stuck now. I'm afraid to delete thedistributor_admin from remote login, because I'm afraid that it will screw up the replication, but I'm pretty certain that having distributor_admin in remote logins is what's blocking me from being able to run remote query under a different login. Can anyone suggest anything please?

Filegroup Question
I am redesigning the filegroups for a database that is used for data processing. Data will be loaded into various tables that will be created on filegroups that are on different drives. Large range queries will be then run against the tables in parallel. The reasoning for this is to isolate IO.My question is whether there is any value in having a filegroup besides a PRIMARY for other tables. We are not looking to use piecemeal restores or anthing like that for this database, so I am not sure the concept of having a tiny filegroup just for system objects has any validity here. Any advice or input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Different Fill Factor settings on multiple indexes in same table...
Is there any issues with the Primary Key / Clustered Index being set to 100%, while all Non-Clustered Indexes are set for 80%?If not - does padding the indexes (both clustered and non-clustered) have any issues with mixed Fill Factor settings?Thank you...

SQL Binaries and TempDB on a separate
Our IT people set up a server and installed SQL Server 2008R2 putting the SQL binaries on its own 100GB drive\partition (sorry for the ignorance, but I don't know how the SAN is setup and finding out would take longer than I have). Anyways we didn't ask for that. So my options are to tell them to put the binaries on C with the OS orleave it where it is and put TempDB on that drive with it. Of course I feel like TempDB being by itself would be best. With 100 GB on that drive, I was thinking it was ok to leave SQL installed there and just presize tempdb to maybe 50GB, currently it is only around 4GB for both the data and log files.Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Rebuild of Indexes caused excessive Growth
I Rebuilt Indexes and it caused excessive Growth. The Database went from 389 GB to 690 GB.So I rebuilt the Indexes with a Fill Factor of 100%.I do not understand why I can't specify 0%.All of the tables are at 0% or 1005. Not good. But after the rebuild it only made 7% of free space.Restores went from just 0ver 30 minutes to over 2 hours.Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will never do what I did again.

sp_addmergearticle "invalid object name" sysarticleupdates
Hello allI am trying to create merge replication. the replication is created after the steps: 1. sp_replicationdboption2. sp_addmergepublication3. sp_addpublication_snapshotbut fails on sp_addmergearticle with the error above. several times I ve recreated the replication by sp_removedbreplication and repeating the steps 1-3. Ive looked and did not find the table sysarticleupdates in system tables for the DB. I've found in internet an advise to update [master].[dbo].[sysobjects]. As the sp sp_addmergearticle could be corrupted. But updates on system tables don't allowed in MSSQL 2008 R2thank You in advance

Full text indexing not finding a phrase?
One of the Devs reported that when doing a Full Text search today for an exact phrase (that he *knows* exists,) nothing was returned. He did a rebuild of the catalog, re-ran the query, and found the phrase. No errors, nothing. The catalog is configured for Automatic change tracking, but we don't do scheduled rebuilds / optimizations of the catalog. Should we be doing such things? As of right now, I've got an Agent job setup to rebuild the catalog nightly (except for weekends) as that resolved the problem the first time. But, any insight into what might cause such behavior would be appreciated as well...Thanks,Jason
